ABOUT TY

Ty Butler is originally from the Midwest, born and raised in a small Kansas town. Influenced by his mother, father and grandfather he began playing golf at an early age. Starting out in junior golf at age 8 it wasn’t long before Ty fell in love with the game and started a lifelong journey to becoming a golf course architect. Playing much of his golf in the wide open and windy spaces of the Midwest, and exposure to the many great courses found in this region of the country, has influenced his style of design.

Upon earning a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Kansas State University in 1990, Ty joined the firm Robert Trent Jones II. During his 20 years at RTJ II, his skills and experience as a golf course architect were refined working on projects around the globe. His designs are thoughtful and respectful of the natural environment, and combine the highest standards of strategy, playability and aesthetics to create truly memorable golf courses.

Many of Ty’s courses have been recognized in both national and state rankings for their design excellence. The Kaluhyat Course at Turning Stone Casino Resort fully reflects the Naturalist approach to design. The course traverses gently rolling terrain dotted with pristine natural wetlands, all of which were preserved. The course was honored by Golf Digest as one of the “Best New Upscale Public Courses” of 2004 ranking 3rd. Shortly after opening Kaluhyat enter Golf Digest’s “Americas 100 Greatest Public Courses” where it was ranked as high as 72nd.
